Ambedkar Statue Burned in Chittoor as Villagers Protest, Police Vow Swift Arrests

  • Unidentified persons allegedly poured petrol on the Ambedkar statue at Devalampeta in Vedurukuppam and set it ablaze in the early hours of October 3.
  • Hundreds of villagers staged rasta-rokos, blocking routes toward Puttur, Pallipattu and Kothapallimitta and halting rural traffic for hours.
  • Additional police from Chittoor, Puttur and Nagari were deployed across Vedurukuppam, Karveti Nagaram and S.R. Puram in the Gangadhara Nellore (SC) constituency.
  • District Collector Sumit Kumar and SP Tushar Dudi met community elders in Devalampeta and appealed for peace.
  • Police registered a case, are questioning suspects and reviewing CCTV footage, and officials ordered a rapid installation of a new statue, while Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu sought a detailed report.
