AMBA Household Service Bills Rise 1.8% in November to ARS 173,480

A 44% cut to subsidies has shifted a larger share of utility and transport costs onto households.

Overview

  • The IIEP (UBA–CONICET) reports that an unsubsidized Buenos Aires metro household spent ARS 173,480 on electricity, gas, water and public transport in November.
  • Costs rose 30% from November 2024 and are up 23% so far in 2025, reflecting sustained tariff adjustments.
  • November increases included gas (fixed +3.5%, variable +4%), electricity (fixed +3.6%, variable +3.8%) and bus fares (+6.6%), with higher electricity consumption adding to the monthly rise.
  • Households now cover about 52% of service costs versus 48% by the state, following the reported subsidy reduction.
  • The basket equals 10.7% of the average registered salary and transport accounts for 47% of the total, while families and small businesses report mounting strain from higher fixed bills and weaker sales.
