AMBA Household Service Bills Drop 7.7% in September as Usage Falls

Subsidy cutbacks alongside monthly indexation keep pressure on future bills.

Overview

  • An unsubsidized AMBA household spent ARS 173,625 in September on electricity, gas, water and transport, according to the IIEP (UBA-CONICET).
  • The monthly decline reflects lower post‑winter consumption of gas and electricity, which more than offset increases in fixed and variable charges.
  • By service: gas ARS 34,765 (-19.3% m/m), electricity ARS 33,703 (-17.6%), water ARS 30,466 (-2.3%) and transport ARS 74,692 (+2.3%); CABA bus fares rose 3.9% under an IPC+2% rule while interjurisdictional lines were unchanged.
  • Despite the dip, the basket is 26% higher than a year earlier and 526% above December 2023, with a 24% rise so far in 2025 versus 21% inflation.
  • Households cover about half of service costs as real subsidies fell 54% in 2025, and the basket equals 11.1% of the average registered salary with transport accounting for 43% of September’s spend.
