AMBA Household Service Bills Dip 2.7% in August to $181,194, Still Up 35% Year Over Year

  • For a representative N1 household, monthly spending totaled $40,900 for electricity, $43,105 for gas, $73,019 for transport, and $31,170 for water.
  • Public transport was the largest component at 39% of the basket, with a weighted bus fare increase of 4.6% in August and a 56% jump versus a year earlier.
  • Tariff items rose in August—gas fixed +2.2% and variable +1.5%, electricity fixed +2.1% and variable +1.7%—but lower usage limited N1 bill increases to 1.8% for gas and 0.9% for electricity.
  • Households now cover roughly half of service costs through tariffs as real subsidies fell 57% year over year, including a 63% drop in energy subsidies and a 29% decline in transport.
