Amazon to Invest $20 Billion in Pennsylvania for AI Data Centers

Representing Pennsylvania’s largest private-sector investment, the project awaits federal approval for a direct connection to a nuclear power plant.

Overview

  • Amazon will build two data center campuses in Salem Township and Falls Township to expand its cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
  • One complex will adjoin the Susquehanna nuclear power plant under a proposed “behind-the-meter” arrangement for up to 960 megawatts that is pending Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approval.
  • The development is expected to create 1,250 permanent high-skilled jobs and support thousands more roles across the Amazon Web Services data center supply chain.
  • Amazon plans to fund local workforce development initiatives, including data center technician certifications, fiber optic fusion splicing workshops and STEM programs for K–12 students.
  • Governor Josh Shapiro and local officials have endorsed the deal as a key driver of economic growth and Pennsylvania’s role in the national AI technology race.
