Amazon to Close Android Appstore on August 20, Ending Downloads and In-App Purchases

Analysts point to low adoption alongside high maintenance costs as driving factors

  • On August 20, 2025, the Amazon Appstore will cease all app downloads, updates and in-app purchases on standard Android devices.
  • Amazon Coins will remain redeemable until the shutdown date with all leftover balances refunded afterward.
