Amazon is testing a new AI assistant on its mobile app that can answer customer questions about specific products. The AI assistant uses listing details and user reviews to generate responses.
The AI assistant is currently limited in its capabilities and cannot compare items or find alternatives. It can, however, make soft suggestions.
Despite being in the early stages of testing, the AI assistant has demonstrated the ability to generate Python code, write jokes about a product, or answer in languages besides English.
Amazon is also reportedly working on a revamped and paid version of Alexa, called Alexa Plus, which is said to offer a more conversational and personalized experience.
Amazon's AI assistant is part of the company's larger ambitions in AI, which includes the development of its own AI chips and the release of Bedrock, a platform for building generative AI applications on the AWS cloud service.
