Overview
- Prime Video confirmed that its curated 24/7 channel called Prime will be discontinued on August 1, 2026 and that the channel’s scheduled feed will stop then while its shows and films stay available on demand.
- Amazon said other live streams on the service remain unchanged and that customers will still have access to ARD and ZDF feeds plus more than 500 free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels.
- The linear channel launched in April 2025 as a ‘showcase’ to help viewers who prefer fixed schedules find content, but a planned audience reach measurement was never carried out and the company has not released usage data.
- The initiative was driven by former Germany country director Christoph Schneider and mixed programming included films, series and live sport such as NFL, football and tennis.
- Industry observers see the quick shutdown as a sign that running a proprietary 24/7 channel posed limits for streaming discovery and that platforms may favor FAST channels and on-demand curation going forward.
