Amazon Places Record Order for 200 Electric Trucks from Mercedes-Benz
The e-commerce giant aims to decarbonize its European logistics network with the largest electric truck order in its history as part of its 2040 net-zero pledge.
- Amazon has ordered 200 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks, with over 140 to be deployed in the UK and the rest in Germany, starting later this year.
- The trucks, capable of a 500-kilometer range, will be used for middle-mile routes connecting fulfillment centers, sort centers, and delivery stations.
- Amazon is building a network of 360-kilowatt fast chargers at its sites, enabling trucks to charge from 20% to 80% in under an hour to support operations.
- The company’s investment aligns with its Climate Pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040, including a broader €1 billion plan to electrify its European transport network.
- This order marks the largest electric truck purchase for both Amazon and Daimler Truck, showcasing a significant step in decarbonizing heavy goods transportation.
