Overview
- Amazon said Wednesday that a portion of its Edmonton fulfilment centre is already operating as its first Canadian Disaster Relief hub to support communities before, during, and after major disasters.
- The facility is focused on wildfire response and will stock air purifiers, N95 masks, respirators, heavy-duty boots and gloves, helmets, goggles, and sifters for donation to responders.
- Amazon plans to reach a target inventory of 180,000 emergency items ahead of a formal grand opening in October 2026 and will rotate stock to respond to floods, tornadoes, and other disasters.
- The company will partner with the Canadian Red Cross and Team Rubicon Canada to deliver donated supplies within hours, using Amazon logistics to speed distribution to affected communities.
- Edmonton fulfilment staff can use paid shift time to receive, sort, and maintain hub supplies, and the move follows similar U.S. hub expansions as Canada faces some of its worst recent fire seasons.
