Amazon MGM Studios in Early Development of Poltergeist TV Series Adaptation

Series Based on Classic Spielberg Film to be Executive Produced by Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Amazon MGM Studios; No Writing Team Announced Yet.

  • Amazon MGM Studios is in early development of a TV series adaptation of the classic horror film 'Poltergeist', which was originally co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg in 1982.
  • The TV series will be executive produced by Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television, which produced the original film. However, no writers are attached to the project as of yet.
  • The original film centered on a family moving into a new home infested by ghosts who kidnap their young daughter. How closely the series will follow the plot of the original film remains unclear.
  • This will not be the first time 'Poltergeist' has been adapted for TV; 'Poltergeist: The Legacy' had a four-season run between Showtime and the Sci-Fi Channel in the late 1990s.
  • The 'Poltergeist' series is among several other reboots Amazon MGM Studios plan to undertake, following their successful acquisition of MGM Studios in 2021 for $9 billion.
