Amazon Leads in Adopting Open-Source Casting Technology, Matter Casting

Despite backing from Google and Apple, Amazon is the first to implement the Matter Casting feature, starting with its Echo Show 15 device.

Amazon announced at CES 2024 that it's the first hardware manufacturer to support an open-source casting technology called Matter Casting, which is built into the larger, open-source Matter smart home protocol.
Amazon’s Echo Show 15 is the first of its devices to become Matter Casting enabled, with plans to add it to compatible Fire TV devices in the coming months.
Matter Casting is an open protocol that doesn’t require specific hardware, only that the app on your personal device and the app on the device you’re casting to have the feature enabled.
Despite the backing of Google and Apple for the Matter smart home protocol, neither company has made moves to adopt Matter Casting in their devices or services.
Amazon says that additional apps like Plex, Pluto TV, Sling TV, and Starz will be adding Matter Casting support later this year.
