Amazon Launches Fire TV Stick 4K Select With New Vega OS and Appstore-Only Apps

The device introduces Amazon’s Linux-based Vega OS with Appstore-only downloads, trading Dolby Vision and Atmos for a lower price.

Overview

  • The Fire TV Stick 4K Select becomes Amazon’s third 4K stick, positioned below the 4K and 4K Max at $39.99 in the U.S. and £49.99 in the U.K.
  • Pre-orders are open now with October shipping, and Amazon lists a U.K. release on October 15 with earliest deliveries showing as October 16.
  • The model supports 4K HDR, including HDR10 and HDR10+, but omits Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, uses a lower-spec Wi‑Fi chip, and lacks the Enhanced remote found with the 4K Max.
  • Amazon’s new Linux-based Vega OS powers the stick, which the company touts as responsive and the fastest sub-$40 4K streamer, while limiting installs to Amazon Appstore titles rather than allowing sideloading.
  • Amazon says the 4K Select will support cloud gaming with Xbox Cloud Gaming and its own Luna service when used with compatible wireless controllers.
