Overview
- Amazon introduced the feature on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, letting Alexa for Shopping tell users if a text, email, call or message came from Amazon, did not come from Amazon, or could not be verified.
- The tool works by comparing sender information, message content, timing and formatting against Amazon’s catalog of billions of outbound messages to determine a match.
- Amazon says Alexa will only return a positive confirmation when it is completely certain and will otherwise give a negative or 'unable to verify' result to avoid false assurances.
- Each verification request is automatically routed to Amazon’s customer protection and enforcement teams so reports become fraud intelligence used to map scams and pursue takedowns, and Alexa points users to verify@amazon.com or the online verification form when it cannot verify.
- The launch is part of a wider retail shift toward embedding trust into shopping experiences, with rivals like Walmart linking fraud signals across identity, transactions and customer contacts to reduce the few seconds of consumer uncertainty before they click or pay.
