Amazon Job Listing Points to 2025 Launch of ‘Vega OS’ for Fire TV

The in-house Linux platform relies on React Native to run across TVs and smart displays.

Overview

  • An Amazon posting for a Prime Video Fire TV role explicitly referenced a Vega OS product and said an app would launch in 2025 before the company edited the listing and declined to comment.
  • Reporting says a reveal could come at Amazon’s Sept. 30 Devices & Services event in New York, though any announcement remains unconfirmed and may be low key.
  • Vega is built to replace Amazon’s Android-based Fire TV software, with a first rollout expected on new TV streaming hardware before the end of 2025.
  • Amazon does not plan to upgrade existing Fire TV devices to Vega and will allow manufacturers to keep releasing Android-based Fire TVs, creating a split platform for developers.
  • The OS already powers the latest Echo Show 5, Echo Hub, and Echo Spot, and Amazon staff have shared tools like TVChameleon to help port Android TV apps to React Native.
