Amazon Greenlights New Viking Drama 'Bloodaxe' From Michael and Horatio Hirst

The series will explore the rise of Erik Bloodaxe and Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, in a tumultuous fight for Norway's throne.

Michael Hirst, creator of 'Vikings,' and his son Horatio Hirst are collaborating on 'Bloodaxe,' a new historical drama for Amazon's Prime Video.
'Bloodaxe' will chronicle the true story of Viking warrior Erik Bloodaxe and his wife Gunnhild as they navigate betrayal, shifting loyalties, and war in their quest for power in Norway.
The series is independent of Hirst's previous Viking projects, taking place decades after 'Vikings' and before 'Vikings: Valhalla.'
Produced by MGM Television, now part of Amazon MGM Studios, the show is a continuation of the Hirsts' expertise in historical storytelling.
Michael and Horatio Hirst are also developing a separate historical drama for Amazon based on the book 'A Day of Fire: A Novel of Pompeii.'
