Amazon Confirms Tomb Raider Catalyst Will Launch in 2028

The company’s gaming boss said the shift spaces the two new Tomb Raider releases and leaves the studio extra time for development and polish.

Overview

  • Amazon Games head Jeffrey Gattis said on The Game Business on Friday that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is set for February 12, 2027 and that the follow-up, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, will arrive in 2028.
  • Both titles were announced together at the 2025 Game Awards and were originally expected a year earlier, so the new timing pushes the pair back roughly one year from their initial windows.
  • Both games are planned as multiplatform releases for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, and Catalyst is described as a new chapter set in India running on Unreal Engine 5.
  • Amazon and Crystal Dynamics have not labeled the change an explicit delay, and reporting points to possible reasons such as spacing the releases, extra polishing time, and broader development pressures including studio layoffs and the use of AI tools.
  • The revised schedule could ease Crystal Dynamics’ workload and reduce overlap with other Amazon projects while extending the wait for fans and shifting how the Tomb Raider revival will roll out across games and media.
