Amazon Confirms 2,198 Washington Corporate Cuts in Latest Restructuring

The cuts focus on core engineering roles, trimming management layers to streamline decision-making.

Overview

  • More than 1,400 roles are in Seattle and over 600 in Bellevue, with the remainder elsewhere in Washington.
  • Separations are scheduled from late April through late June, and affected employees receive at least 90 days’ notice with the option to avoid layoff by securing internal transfers.
  • Over half of the affected positions are in software development, engineering management, program management, and technical product roles, including numerous Manager III and Senior Manager titles.
  • The state filing reflects Amazon’s global plan to eliminate 16,000 corporate jobs; combined with October’s reductions, more than 4,500 corporate roles have been cut in Washington in under a year.
  • Separate from the corporate actions, about 400 Washington retail jobs are being eliminated due to Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh store closures.
