Overview
- A deal announced Tuesday between Amazon and Einride adds 75 manually operated heavy-duty electric trucks to Amazon’s middle-mile network through the Relay driver app.
- Amazon is not buying the trucks, since Einride will own and operate them and use its Saga AI to plan routes and charging for select Amazon loads.
- The rollout includes charging at five U.S. sites, and Einride estimates the fleet could log up to three million electric miles each year with no tailpipe emissions.
- The agreement excludes autonomous trucks, and Einride separately holds NHTSA approval to run autonomous vehicles on public roads in Texas and operates a daily driverless route for GE Appliances in Selmer, Tennessee.
- Einride is working to go public through a merger with Legato Merger Corp. III in the first half of 2026, a deal expected to raise more than $300 million to expand vehicles, software, and charging.
