Amazon Begins Automatic $200 Refunds to More Prime Customers

Widened eligibility and a higher per-person cap mean millions can receive automatic payments as part of the $2.5 billion settlement without filing claims.

Overview

  • Expanded automatic payments began on Oct. 1, 2026, sending refunds to newly eligible Prime users by PayPal, Venmo or mailed check without any new claim forms.
  • The payments come from a $2.5 billion settlement that split $1.5 billion for consumer redress and a $1 billion civil penalty after FTC allegations about deceptive Prime enrollment and cancellation flows.
  • As of September 2026 Amazon had already paid more than $845 million to customers under the program and the revised order raises the maximum individual payout from $51 to $200.
  • The revision expands eligibility to many customers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits in a 12-month period and lets some prior recipients receive up to $149 more to reach the $200 cap.
  • Regulators warn that legitimate refunds are automatic and free, urge consumers to ignore unsolicited refund offers or requests for fees or personal data, and say supplemental payment rounds may run through April 2027 if funds remain.
