Overview

  • The annual 38-day Amarnath Yatra has been suspended on both the 14 km Baltal and 46 km Pahalgam routes until August 3 for critical repair and maintenance work following heavy rainfall
  • Pilgrim convoys from Jammu’s Bagwati Nagar base camp and Pahalgam onward journeys have been suspended for a second day pending completion of safety inspections
  • Flagged off on July 3 and originally set to conclude on August 9, the pilgrimage will now end a week early to accommodate ongoing track restoration
  • Officials report that more than 405,000 devotees have paid obeisance at the 3,888-meter ice-lingam shrine this season under enhanced security and logistical arrangements
  • Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said the suspension prioritizes pilgrim safety and that authorities will announce resumption dates once inspections are complete
