Amarnath Yatra Surpasses 1.8 Lakh Pilgrims at Midway as Daily Convoys Depart

A multi-layered security grid bolstered after last April’s attack is guiding pilgrims along two routes without helicopter support this year.

  • Nearly 1.83 lakh devotees have completed darshan at the 3,888-metre Amarnath cave shrine since the yatra began on July 3.
  • The 12th batch of 7,049 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in two escorted convoys for the Baltal and Nunwan–Pahalgam base camps under CRPF and police protection.
  • Authorities have deployed 180 additional CAPF companies alongside the Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB and J&K Police in a layered security grid featuring RFID tracking and counter-drone systems.
  • More than 4 lakh pilgrims have registered online for the 14 km Baltal route and the four-day 46 km Pahalgam trail, with on-spot sign-ups available at base camps.
  • The 38-day pilgrimage, shortened from 52 days after an April terror attack, runs until August 9 and this year does not include helicopter services for yatris.
