Overview

  • Since its July 3 launch, over 1.11 lakh devotees have paid obeisance at the 3,880-metre Amarnath cave shrine under the 38-day pilgrimage schedule.
  • While pilgrim batches of roughly 7,000 continue in escorted convoys, most yatris now reach Pahalgam and Baltal base camps on independent treks for greater flexibility.
  • Authorities have reinforced the route with 180 extra CAPF companies alongside Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB and J&K Police units supported by AI facial-recognition, RFID tracking, high-resolution CCTV and drones.
  • Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has unveiled proposals for a two-phase ropeway project aimed at easing the journey for elderly and disabled pilgrims.
  • Community langars, on-spot registration counters and local welcome rituals remain in place along both the 46 km Pahalgam route and the 14 km Baltal trail.
