Amarnath Yatra Shortened by a Week as Over 4.14 Lakh Pilgrims Complete Darshan

Amit Shah hailed the Shrine Board’s efforts in delivering a secure pilgrimage despite monsoon disruptions.

Overview

  • More than 4.14 lakh devotees completed the 38-day Amarnath Yatra, marking a decline from last year’s 5.1 lakh attendees.
  • Authorities suspended the pilgrimage on August 3 and cut it short by a week due to heavy monsoon rains and approved track maintenance on the Baltal and Pahalgam routes.
  • In response to an April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, the government deployed a record number of troops and paramilitary forces and banned aerial operations over the shrine.
  • Two 100-bed base hospitals, 1,222 medical professionals, emergency communication points and an RFID-based tracking system supported health and safety services along the pilgrimage tracks.
  • Landslides along the Baltal axis caused at least one pilgrim’s death and several injuries, prompting emergency rescue efforts and further route fortification.
