Amarnath Yatra Advances with Fresh Convoy as Injured Pilgrims Rejoin After Ramban Collision

Heightened security deployments alongside upgraded base camps have kept the monthlong pilgrimage on course following Saturday’s five-bus crash.

Overview

  • Nearly 50,000 devotees have performed darshan at the cave shrine in the first three days of the 38-day yatra.
  • On July 6, a fifth batch of 7,208 pilgrims departed Bhagwati Nagar in two escorted convoys bound for the 14 km Baltal and 46 km Pahalgam routes.
  • A five-bus collision near Chanderkote on July 5 injured 36 pilgrims, all of whom were treated at Ramban District Hospital, discharged and most resumed their journey.
  • Authorities have deployed 180 additional CAPF companies alongside Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB and local police, reinforced by RFID tracking and facial recognition cameras.
  • New Yatri Niwas facilities at Baltal, Bijbehara, Nunwan and Sidhra now include dormitories, disaster centres and upgraded utilities to boost pilgrim safety and comfort.
