Alvin Kamara Will Miss Week 1 With MCL Sprain

Alvin Kamara is not expected to play in the Saints’ Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions, NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport said on Sunday.
Kamara suffered an MCL sprain in mid-August and, despite a full practice late in the week, team medical staff and coaches judged him not quite ready to be activated for the opener.
Travis Etienne will make his regular-season debut for New Orleans and is expected to handle the bulk of the rushing and passing-down work in Kamara’s absence.
The Saints placed rookie Audric Estime on injured reserve and promoted undrafted back CJ Donaldson to the active roster, leaving Kendre Miller as the primary backup behind Etienne.
For fantasy managers the short-term impact is muted because Etienne’s offseason signing already positioned him as the lead back, but Kamara’s status remains week-to-week and should be monitored for future lineups.
