Overview
- Aluar commissioned Stage V on Thursday, October 22, 2026, raising the Puerto Madryn wind complex to 582 MW and making it the largest wind installation in Argentina by installed capacity.
- The company said the five stages together cost about US$740–745 million, with Stage V accounting for roughly US$400 million and adding 56 Goldwind 6 MW turbines plus extensive civil works and 35 km of transmission lines.
- Aluar projects the new phase will generate about 1,500 GWh a year, increase wind’s share of the plant’s supply from roughly 12% to 33%, avoid large daily natural gas use and cut the smelter’s CO2 emissions by more than one million tonnes annually.
- A September bylaws change formally authorizes Aluar to sell power and to develop storage, solar and technology infrastructure, and the company is already advancing battery and solar projects and evaluating data‑center opportunities.
- Aluar owns 57,400 hectares near Puerto Madryn it says could host up to about 1,500 MW more, but Argentina’s limited transmission capacity and pending decisions such as the Futaleufú concession will shape how much of that capacity can be built or commercialized.
