Alternative Healer Sentenced to 10 Years for Manslaughter at Slapping Therapy Workshop

Hongchi Xiao, convicted of gross negligence manslaughter, failed to seek medical aid for a diabetic woman who stopped insulin at his retreat.

Danielle Carr-Gomm, a 71-year-old diabetic woman, died in 2016 after stopping insulin during a week-long 'slapping therapy' workshop led by Hongchi Xiao in Wiltshire, UK.
Xiao was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with an additional five years on extended license, after being found guilty of gross negligence manslaughter at Winchester Crown Court.
The court heard that Xiao encouraged Carr-Gomm to stop her insulin, ignored her worsening condition, and failed to seek medical help despite her severe symptoms, including vomiting and frothing at the mouth.
Xiao, who has no medical qualifications, was previously prosecuted in Australia over the death of a six-year-old boy whose parents stopped his insulin after attending one of Xiao's workshops.
The judge described Xiao as dangerous, citing his continued promotion of the unscientific Paida Lajin therapy, which involves slapping to 'expel toxins,' and warned of the risk of future harm after his release.
