Overview

• The II International conference “Altai – the homeland of the Turks” opened in Manzherok near Gorno-Altaisk in the Republic of Altai.
• Vladimir Putin sent a greeting that was read by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, who said the research carries social and political significance.
• Organizers include the Russian Military-Historical Society, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the RAS, the Russian society Znanie, and the Russian Historical Society with support from the Republic of Altai government.
• Delegations are expected from Russia, Belarus, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan.
• The program highlights joint archaeological and ethnographic expeditions, museum projects, revival of traditional crafts, and the presentation of the second volume of the “Chronicle of Turkic Civilization.”
