Alpine to Review Colapinto’s Team-Order Defiance After Late Pass on Gasly at US GP

The team cites fuel saving plus uncertainty over being lapped to justify the instruction.

Overview

  • Managing director Steve Nielsen said pit-wall instructions are final and the breach will be addressed internally.
  • Colapinto passed Gasly into Turn 1 on lap 54 of 56 after repeated messages to hold position while they ran 17th and 18th.
  • Alpine explained that both cars were conserving fuel with race leader Max Verstappen closing, leaving doubt over whether they would need to complete the full distance.
  • Colapinto said fresher tyres and pressure from Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto made it preferable for him to lead, and he stayed ahead of Bortoleto after the move.
  • Gasly, hindered by an early switch to softs and a slow pit stop, declined to discuss the clash publicly as the team’s form remains weak and a similar late swap occurred in Baku.
