Overview
- Police arrested Gursimran Singh, also known as Jatin Kali, after he fired at a checkpoint near Sodhiwala; he was injured and a .32 bore pistol was recovered, which investigators will test to confirm any link to the murder.
- Earlier, two co-accused, Kannav and Harsh, were taken into custody, while the suspected shooters, Badal and an accomplice seen on CCTV, remain on the run as checkpoints and search operations continue.
- Investigators say the attack was planned at a November 13 birthday gathering, where Kali allegedly offered Rs 1 lakh and formed two teams after a reconnaissance of the victim’s routine.
- Police state the weapon was procured from Uttar Pradesh and that the motive remains unconfirmed, while a social media claim by the Sher-e-Punjab Brigade is being examined as possibly misleading.
- In a separate overnight operation, Amritsar police said they shot dead Harjinder Singh, a gangster alleged to have links with Pakistan-based handlers, and recovered two pistols while his associate escaped.
