Overview
- Bhiwandi Police and the SIT arrested Bijendra Kumar Gupta and an associate in Bihar after a month-long manhunt, and brought them to Maharashtra for custodial interrogation.
- Investigators used call detail records, mobile location data and WhatsApp chats to trace Gupta through an associate before the arrest, police sources said.
- The probe has identified employees at an Agra printing press who allegedly stole TET question sets during printing and passed them into Gupta’s network.
- With Gupta’s arrest the total number held in the case has risen to about 14, and police are seeking transit remand to question him about buyers, middlemen and money flows.
- The leak forced postponement of the June TET that affected nearly six lakh candidates and has prompted calls for tighter controls, faster prosecutions and higher penalties for organised paper leaks.
