Alleged Gambino Mobsters Granted Bail Ahead of Thanksgiving

Judge cites lack of violence in younger generation of mafia as reason for bail, despite charges of strong-arming New York City businesses.

  • Two alleged members of the Gambino crime family, Diego 'Danny' Tantillo and Angelo 'Fifi' Gradilone, have been granted bail and will spend Thanksgiving at home under house arrest and strict monitoring.
  • Tantillo and Gradilone were among ten alleged mobsters charged earlier this month in a violent bid to take over New York City's garbage hauling and demolition businesses.
  • Tantillo is accused of threatening a victim in the garbage hauling business with a baseball bat and setting fire to the steps of his house, while Gradilone is accused of receiving paychecks and union health benefits he was not entitled to.
  • The defendants' bonds - $5 million for Tantillo and $1 million for Gradilone - were co-signed by their wives and other relatives.
  • Brooklyn Federal Court Judge Frederic Block granted the bail, stating that the younger generation of the mafioso are not killing people these days and that the charges of RICO conspiracy are not necessarily crimes of violence.
