Overview

• The crash occurred shortly after 7am in lane four of the M62 eastbound just after junction 11 at Birchwood, near Warrington.
• Queues on the M62 stretched back toward junction 8 and caused knock-on delays on the M6 southbound toward junction 22 at Winwick.
• National Highways advised drivers of roughly 30-minute delays and an expected clearance window between 9:15 and 9:30, followed by normal conditions by about 9:30–9:45.
• Traffic monitors including Inrix, the AA and Google corroborated heavy congestion on both motorways during the incident.
• A separate serious collision on the M6 near junction 45 led to a closure between junctions 44 and 45 to allow emergency services to attend.
