Police say the jailbreak probe uncovered a 2024 Kamloops murder plot tied to accused facilitator Ryan Van Gool.

Overview

  • B.C. RCMP charged Edward Ayoub, John Potvin and Ryan Van Gool over Rabih Alkhalil’s 2022 escape from the North Fraser Pretrial Centre.
  • Potvin is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, Ayoub is in custody in another province, and Van Gool is in custody in B.C.
  • Van Gool and Scott and Bryce Telford appeared by video in B.C. Supreme Court on conspiracy-to-murder charges and consented to remain in custody, with a further hearing set for Sept. 17.
  • The alleged Kamloops plot targeted Justin Christopher Hunt, and the indictment also cites possession of a loaded Glock 17–type pistol in March 2024.
  • Federal police say Alkhalil remains at large and will not confirm reports of his arrest in Qatar, noting an Interpol Red Notice and a $50,000 RCMP reward.
