Former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling announced his withdrawal from UFC 307 due to a shoulder injury sustained in sparring.
Sterling confirmed that his shoulder does not require surgery but will not heal in time for the Oct. 5 fight in Salt Lake City.
He expressed his desire to reschedule the fight with undefeated featherweight Movsar Evloev for later in the year.
Sterling, ranked No. 9 featherweight, recently won his debut in the division against Calvin Kattar at UFC 300 in April.
Evloev, ranked No. 6, last fought in January, defeating Arnold Allen, and is awaiting UFC's decision on a replacement opponent.
