Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Becomes First Bluesky User to Reach 1 Million Followers

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is the first individual to surpass 1 million followers on Bluesky, a decentralized social media platform created by Twitter's former CEO Jack Dorsey.
Bluesky has seen a significant increase in users, with its base tripling since the U.S. election and reaching 20 million by November 2024.
Ocasio-Cortez, an early adopter of the platform, has been active since April 2023 and attributes the migration from X to Bluesky to a decline in user enjoyment on Musk's platform.
Other prominent Bluesky accounts include George Takei and Mark Hamill, with followers numbering in the hundreds of thousands, while most U.S. lawmakers have yet to establish a significant presence on the platform.
Bluesky CEO Jay Graber reported that the platform has been onboarding approximately 1 million new users daily in recent weeks, emphasizing its focus on fostering enjoyable and engaging online interactions.
