Alexandra Eala Makes History with Miami Open Semifinal Run

The 19-year-old Filipino wildcard stuns the tennis world, defeating three Grand Slam champions and securing her first top 100 WTA ranking.

Alexandra Eala, ranked 140th in the world, defeated world No. 2 Iga Swiatek to secure a spot in the Miami Open semifinals.
Eala’s victory ended Swiatek’s 38-match winning streak against players ranked outside the top 50.
During her historic run, Eala also defeated Grand Slam champions Jelena Ostapenko and Madison Keys.
She is the first Filipino player to reach the semifinals of a WTA 1000 tournament and will break into the top 100 WTA rankings for the first time.
Eala, who has trained at the Rafael Nadal Academy since age 13, will face world No. 4 Jessica Pegula in the semifinals on March 28.
