Alex Salmond, former first minister of Scotland, has launched a fresh legal action against the Scottish Government, alleging 'misfeasance' by civil servants.
Salmond is seeking significant damages and compensation for loss of earnings that could total millions of pounds.
The legal action follows a botched investigation of sexual misconduct claims against Salmond, for which he won a judicial review in 2019 and was awarded £512,250 of taxpayers' money to cover his legal costs.
Salmond was cleared of 14 sexual assault charges in a separate criminal trial in 2020.
The Scottish Government's handling of the complaints and the judicial review was found to be 'seriously flawed' by a Holyrood inquiry in 2021.
