Court Clerk Becky Hill Accused of Influencing Jurors, Denies Allegations Amid Plagiarism Scandal

Alex Murdaugh, a prominent South Carolina attorney, was denied a new trial for the murder of his wife and son, despite allegations of jury tampering by Colleton County Court Clerk Becky Hill.
Hill is accused of making comments about Murdaugh's guilt to members of the jury and pressuring them to reach a verdict quickly. However, South Carolina Supreme Court Justice Jean Toal ruled that these comments did not influence the guilty verdict.
One juror, referred to as Juror Z, testified that her decision had been influenced by Hill's comments, but Justice Toal characterized her testimony as 'ambivalent'.
Hill denied all allegations of jury tampering and also denied allegations that she attempted to make certain members of the jury issue a guilty verdict against Murdaugh.
Hill admitted to plagiarizing part of her post-trial book, 'Behind the Doors of Justice', and is being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for potentially using her office for personal gain.
