Alex Gerko Tops UK's Highest Taxpayers List for 2023

Bernie Ecclestone and Denise Coates follow closely, while two-thirds of the list paid less tax than the previous year.

Russian-born billionaire Alex Gerko, founder of trading firm XTX Markets, was the highest taxpayer in the UK for the 2023 financial year, paying an estimated £664.5m.
Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone was the second-highest taxpayer, paying £650m in tax and penalties to avoid jail for failing to declare over £400m held in a trust in Singapore.
Denise Coates, the boss of gambling firm Bet365, was the third-highest taxpayer, contributing £375.9m.
Two-thirds of the individuals on the list paid less tax in 2023 than in the previous year, largely due to their businesses reporting lower profits.
JK Rowling and Ed Sheeran also featured on the list, paying £40m and £36m in UK taxes respectively.
