Alebrijes Parade Runs Through Central CDMX as Authorities Close Roads and Alter Transit

Traffic changes with Metrobús suspensions aimed to manage crowds along Paseo de la Reforma.

Overview

  • The Museo de Arte Popular’s 18th Desfile de Alebrijes Monumentales began at midday and followed a route from the Zócalo via Calle 5 de Mayo, Avenida Juárez and Paseo de la Reforma to the Ángel de la Independencia.
  • City security published alternate-route maps and closed central avenues to keep the procession moving and protect spectators, with authorities estimating the route would finish around mid-afternoon.
  • Metrobús announced service modifications and temporary station suspensions on multiple lines, with some stations on Lines 1, 3, 4 and 7 out of service during the event to reduce crowding.
  • The parade features roughly 300 monumental alebrijes and about 28 musical and performance groups, and the figures will remain on public display along Paseo de la Reforma through 8 November.
  • On Saturday, October 17, officials warned that several other marches and gatherings, including an anti-fracking demonstration, would further affect mobility across central Mexico City and drivers should expect delays.
