  • Monges died early on July 19 in Buenos Aires after complications from a hemorrhagic stroke first suffered in 2022.
  • His family has announced a public wake in Buenos Aires, to be followed by burial at the Panteón de Autores y Compositores in Chacarita cemetery.
  • He began singing at age five and composing at twelve before releasing his debut album Olvídame muchacha in 1971 under the mentorship of Horacio Guarany.
  • Across the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s he recorded multiple albums that defined romantic folk and returned from a brief retirement in 2005 with La vuelta del trovador.
  • Monges also appeared in folk-themed films like La carpa del amor and Los éxitos del amor and cultivated a devoted following in Argentina and Mexico.
