Aldi to Close All UK Stores on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

The discounter says the break ensures colleagues have guaranteed time off, reflecting a broader move toward staff welfare across UK chains.

Overview

  • Aldi confirmed that more than 1,050 supermarkets across England, Scotland and Wales will shut on 25–26 December and on 1 January.
  • Stores will reopen on Saturday 27 December and trade as normal through 31 December, then reopen again on Friday 2 January after the New Year’s Day closure.
  • The retailer will run extended opening hours in the days before Christmas so customers can stock up.
  • Aldi said the policy recognises staff efforts and gives teams time to relax with their families over the festive period.
  • Home Bargains has also scheduled a three‑day festive closure, while B&M will close on Christmas Day and reopen on Boxing Day, signalling similar plans across discounters.
