Aldi Lifts September Base Pay to £13.02 for 28,000 Store Staff

The higher rate edges past Lidl's £13 offer to bolster recruitment during a major UK expansion.

Overview

  • From Monday 1 September, Aldi’s minimum hourly rate for store assistants will be £13.02 nationwide.
  • The rate can rise to £13.95 with length of service, with London pay set at £14.35 and up to £14.66 for longer-serving staff.
  • The uplift adds 2p to a £13 rate announced in July and marks the second pay increase for store colleagues this year.
  • Aldi says it remains the UK’s highest-paying supermarket and is the only grocer offering paid breaks worth about £1,425 a year.
  • The pay move follows Lidl’s plan to raise entry pay to £13 from September and comes alongside Aldi’s £650m drive to open more stores and hire staff.
