Albuquerque Sets Dec. 9 Mayoral Runoff as County Finalizes Voting Plan

Election officials are mounting a rapid $1.6 million operation to keep voting accessible because runoffs usually draw fewer voters.

Overview

  • Incumbent Tim Keller and former Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White will face off in the two-candidate mayoral runoff.
  • Early voting runs Dec. 1–6 at 16 locations, generally 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with Election Day voting on Dec. 9 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Bernalillo County will open 50 voting locations on Dec. 9 and offer same-day registration as well as absentee voting.
  • The Clerk’s Office estimates the runoff will cost about $1.6 million as staff pivot from the regular election.
  • Two City Council races in Districts 1 and 3 will also be on the December ballot, and the mayoral winner takes office Jan. 1.
