Alberta Opens $100 Energy Rebate Portal

The one-time payment replaces a legislated fuel tax cut, offering broader short-term relief to about 3.4 million residents.

Overview

  • The secure online application portal launched on Wednesday, July 1 and will accept applications through Sept. 30, with eligible applicants receiving payments by Interac e-transfer within 14 days of applying.
  • To qualify applicants must be 18 or older, have a verified Alberta.ca account, have filed a 2025 tax return, and report household income of $225,000 or less.
  • People on the Alberta Seniors Benefit, AISH, ADAP or Income Support as of July 1 are being automatically enrolled and do not need to apply.
  • The government changed fuel tax relief rules to allow the rebate to replace a legislated 13-cent-per-litre fuel tax cut and says the $100 payment gives the average Albertan about 50% more savings than three months of the tax cut.
  • High website traffic at launch caused sign-in and bank verification problems that officials say are fixed, and more than 106,000 residents applied in the first 24 hours while the province advises those without e-transfer access to arrange it with their bank or seek in-person help.
