Alberta Civil Servants Ratify Mediated Deal, Averting Strike

Members approved a four-year, 12% compensation package recommended by a mediator.

Overview

  • The mediator-recommended offer passed with 63% support on 71% turnout, according to AUPE.
  • The agreement applies retroactively from April 1, 2024 through March 31, 2028.
  • Terms include lifting sub–living-wage roles to $22.65 per hour, a 2% bump at 20 years of service, and a new $11.4 million recruitment and retention fund that rises 4% annually.
  • The vote followed a May strike mandate backed by 90% of members that was nearing expiry next week.
  • Finance Minister Nate Horner welcomed the result as providing stability, as the union also reported a lockout set for Saturday affecting fewer than 50 Town of Coaldale employees who recently backed a strike.
