Albedo Raises $35M for High-Resolution Earth Imaging Satellites
Booz Allen Ventures invests in startup aiming to provide 10-centimeter resolution imagery from very low Earth orbit.
- Albedo, a remote-sensing startup, has raised $35 million to build and launch a network of ultra-high resolution Earth imaging satellites, with Booz Allen Ventures making its first space investment in the company.
- Albedo's satellites will operate in very low Earth orbit, between 250 and 450 kilometers, providing imagery at a resolution of 10 centimeters per pixel, a level of detail previously only available from classified military satellites.
- The satellites will provide persistent surveillance, potentially replacing limited surveillance aircraft, drone flights, high-altitude balloons or intermittent satellite passes currently used by the U.S. military.
- Albedo's technology could be used for defense and intelligence applications, as well as civilian uses such as climate monitoring, infrastructure planning, agriculture, energy, and urban planning.
- Albedo plans to launch its first commercial satellite in 2025, with the ultimate goal of launching a full 24-satellite constellation that would offer five revisits per day.
