Albany Man Charged With Killing Parents After Televised Confession, Bodies Unearthed at Home

A Social Security fraud inquiry steered investigators to the property that later yielded two bodies.

Overview

  • Lorenz Kraus, 53, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of concealment of a human corpse, police said.
  • Kraus contacted CBS6/WRGB on Sept. 25 to give an on-camera confession saying he killed his parents in 2017 and buried them in the backyard, after which he was taken into custody.
  • Two sets of human remains were uncovered during an excavation at 6 Crestwood Court following multi-agency search warrants executed on Sept. 23.
  • Investigators say they are confident the remains are those of Franz, 92, and Theresia, 83, Kraus but are awaiting forensic identification and determinations of cause and manner of death.
  • The probe began after the Social Security Administration requested a welfare check as part of a benefits investigation that also alleges Kraus used his parents’ payments; arraignment was scheduled for Friday.
